Feedback on pitch

I was pleased with how my pitch went and the feedback that I received. For intertextuality I am thinking about having my cover star for cover 1 wearing an outfit inspired by Britney Spears’ iconic denim outfit from the 2011 AMA’s but with darker makeup to emphasise the idea of 90s/2000s pop reimagined, as well as cover lines with intertextual references of her songs such as ‘Oops I did it again’ being used for an article about the music industry taking inspiration from earlier eras. For cover 2 I am now considering including a cover line reference to the Charli XCX lyric ‘Von Dutch, cult classic, but I still pop’ with the brand ‘Von Dutch’ being popularised in the early 2000s and the lyric perhaps referencing how pop music today should be more like it was in the 2000s when it wasn’t so serious and was fun to listen to.

I may include a qr code to my website in the magazine as well as the usernames of other platforms in the print and online versions. In regards to a vinyl giveaway competition, I will mention how to apply through the website in the print version as well as where on the website the form is for audiences to write their concert reviews online.

Cover 2- initial moodboard

This is my initial mood board for cover 2 which focuses on my friend Amelia as a pop star and uses a fisheye lens shot as a vinyl record on the cover to reference the vinyl revival recently. I will include cover lines about sexuality in mainstream music with an LGBTQ+ on the cover which relates to the zeitgeist and progressive target audience and has a pink/silver playful aesthetic to draw attention to the cover. The Vogue Portugal cover inspired me because the shot type made it look like she was spinning.

Cover 1- initial moodboard

This is my initial mood board for my first cover of my magazine, including the model Kat who will be dressed inspired by Britney Spears as an intertextual reference to her and the 90s/2000s but reimagined with bold and messy glitter makeup to suggest that the newer eras of pop is edgier and more creative. The backdrop will be silver cds to catch the light and adhere to the common theme of physical copies of music rising in popularity and will possibly include a flip phone as another 90s element. I was inspired by this Vogue masthead which was written in jewellery which might be used for the title of my magazine ‘Replay.’

Initial mood board for magazine

This is a mood board for the inside of my magazine which captures elements such as photo booth style photos and digital drawings on top of images that give it a scrapbook vibe that creates a more creative and personal style. I’m also thinking of including photoshopped elements similar to the stacked TV image.

Main ideas

-‘Replay’-the name of the magazine referring to elements of the past being utilised in music today

-My focus is on 16-25 year olds and focuses particularly on elements from the 90s/ early 2000s due to their current trend and influence in music and style that my focus group were aware of.

-There will be intertextual references to past pop icons such as Britney Spears for audiences with a shared cultural capital to understand.

-Another major component of my magazine is the focus on the revival of physical copies of music such as vinyl's and CDs which suggests why my audience would purchase a print magazine, as that desire for a physical copy has resurfaced.

-There will also be a focus on live music events such as concerts and festivals within the magazine to encourage active audiences to support different artists, with reader submissions about gigs they have seen to increase interactivity.

-My magazine has liberal and progressive views with one of my covers focusing on the progression of embracing sexuality in the music industry and mainstream media as these views reflect the zeitgeist.
